Committed to sustainability & our planet
Every time a customer buys, that’s a vote. A vote that pushes us to go above and beyond industry standards. A vote that encourages us to keep sustainability at the forefront of our operations.”
– Jamie O’Born, CEO
As part of our ongoing environmental initiatives, we were named North America’s most forest-friendly printer in Canopy’s 2019 Blueline Ranking, the only comprehensive assessment of the environmental performance of North America’s printers.
By choosing TPH, you get a wide range of Ancient Forest Friendly™ products, as designated by Canopy. We are also a supporting partner of Canopy’s Pack4Good Initiative.

Sustainability Report
Our annual Sustainability Report is published to show our environmental initiatives for the year. This report outlines our environmental efforts put in place for people, paper, planet, and our partnerships.
Paper Procurement Policy
Our Paper Procurement Policy supports the development and use of papers that do not come from ancient and endangered forests. This document ensures all suppliers enlist the same environmental responsibility practices.
TPH Commitment to Ethical Sourcing
TPH’s first annual report pursuant to the Fighting Against Forced Labour and Child Labour in Supply Chains Act.
Each action is motivated by the belief that we can make a difference.
Global Conservation Planning Efforts
We’re a direct supporter of Canopy’s ForestMapper project, a map of global Ancient and Endangered Forests. We value and support the creation of a science-based conservation planning process, and help to advocate for the establishment of moratoria in priority ecosystems including, but not limited to, rare ecosystem types and endangered species habitat. More information: A Quick Guide to Ancient and Endangered Forests, Why Ancient & Endangered Forests are Irreplaceable, and How to Work with Forest Mapper.
Protection of Ancient & Endangered Forests
We work with the not-for-profit group Canopy to encourage governments and the forestry sector to support and advance the protection of the world’s ancient and endangered forests. We’re committed and proud to contribute to the creation of conservation legacies in these landscapes of hope. Forest Landscapes of Hope: we’re conscious of the impacts of sourcing decisions on endangered species, high conservation value forests, communities and climate, in places like the Boreal and the Broadback Forest, Coastal Temperate Rainforests and Indonesian Rainforests. We work closely with Canopy on policy implementation to carefully assess our fibre sourcing to avoid ancient and endangered forest regions.
Next-Generation Solutions
We’re committed to the conservation of global ancient and endangered forest ecosystems. As part of that commitment, we strongly support the North American commercial-scale development of pulp, paper and packaging alternatives such as papers derived from agricultural residues like wheat straw. These provide a way to diversify the fibre basket and meet our continued need for high-quality, cost-effective products.
Carbon Footprint Reduction
Our eco-efficient production methods and coast-to-coast reach help to reduce our carbon footprint. We send your files to the location closest to your print job’s destination using a ‘distribute-then-print’ practice. This saves shipping time and costs while lowering emissions and reducing the chance of damage. Reducing our impact one shipment at a time.
Building a Circular Economy
The circular economy challenges the idea of materials “waste”; there is only materials flow. Each TPH production centre participates in recycling through subcontracting recycling services (if not provided by the landlord) and through municipalities in which we operate. If something cannot be recycled, we reuse the material by-products to create things such as note pads and packaging.
We encourage our customers to print on demand, a practice that eliminates waste. Too often, manuals, guides and forms produced in bulk will be out-of-date before they can be used up. Producing on demand helps to save energy and decrease waste.
Reduce, Reuse, & Recycle
Both corporate staff and TPH production centres are mandated to recycle 100% of all recyclable materials due to the zero-waste system’s design put in place.
Our Health, Safety, and the Environment committee provide extensive training and education on how to divert waste from landfills, and to reduce, reuse, & recycle all toner cartridges, batteries, electronic waste, and printing plates. Sometimes it’s not possible to divert waste from landfills. In these cases, we ensure that this waste is dealt with appropriately to reduce risk to the environment.
Innovative, Eco-Friendly Paper
Agriculture residue, wheatgrass and bagasse paper are available upon request. All FSC® papers are certified by NEPCon, including papers from up to 100% recycled post-consumer waste. In 2020 80.58% of TPH’s paper purchases, by volume (lbs) contain PCW (post-consumer waste 10%-100%).
